Beaded Blue December Book

This is the second of the series of four books I made using rainbow tie-dyed material as a base.  I adhered thin printed mesh fabric over the top of the base using fusible interfacing.  The nice thing about fusible interfacing is that it’s lightweight and transparent.  The drawback is that it’s very difficult to get all of the edges of all of the fabric adhered completely.  Often when I do a book cover with thin layers of fabric, I find loose edges along the head and corners of the cover.  I had to tack these down with glue afterwards.

I was cutting out a piece of origami paper for another book when I discovered this blue and gold piece of paper underneath it.  The color theme of this book is wide, using blue, green, maroon, and copper, but all of them are in deep yet subtle shades.  I highlighted that with the bead border around the paper on the cover.

I wanted something for the back cover, preferably using stitches to help keep the fabric secure.  I used a rubber stamp and clear ink to print on the fabric, then dusted it with gold and copper embossing powder.  Unfortunately, I got a little too close with the heat gun while I was melting the embossing powder, and some of the fabric melted too. Whoops.  I used some of the same beads from the front for the rear cover, but not too many, as the beading is extremely time consuming.
