Dear Blog Friends,
As I mentioned earlier, many of my reader friends don’t know that there’s a wealth of free (and cheap) fiction out there to read on the web. So I present you with “Free Fiction Spotlight” where you can find plenty of stories to read.
This week’s free fiction: Daily Science Fiction
They really mean it when they say daily science fiction. One of the best things about DSF is that they will email you a story directly to your inbox. If you’re like me and you like to hit the email before you’ve had your coffee, it’s nice to have a piece of fiction waiting for you in your inbox. The stories tend to be on the shorter side. Some of them are flash (less than 1000 words). I’ve seen both humorous and dark stories come into my inbox from them. They’re not entirely SF either, some of them are fantasy.
One of my favorite stories from them, one of my favorite stories I read in the past year, was Eric James Stone’s “Buy You a Mockingbird.” This one really hit me. I had to read it a second time, and then I had to tell everyone I knew to go and read it too. Not all of them are that dark.
If you want a science fiction story in your inbox every day, go to this link and subscribe. The box it on the right.
Happy reading,
Kater

I review all the stories of DSF for Diabolical Plots (well, I get a little bit of help). I agree with you. I wrote in my review that “Buy you a Mockingbird may be the best flash fiction I ever read” and we are talking over a thousand stories.
Too bad flash fiction doesn’t get its own award. Eric James Stone deserves one for it.
