I made this book at Art Unraveled, at the eponymous workshop ‘Bird on Wheels’. It was more of assemblage than the kind of mixed media that I like, but it was one of the few evening 3-hour class offerings I could fit into my schedule. The teacher directed people to make a pinkish beige bird with a cone cap, but I cut the cone cap to make a top hat, then researched oriole markings.
We started with a premade axel and carved wooden bird, so our job consisted of painting, glueing, and sewing onto some felt wings which I ended up not using. I think the hardest part was to sew the feathers onto the key.
