Artificial Condition by Martha Wells
This is the second of the Murderbot series and I was happy to say that it has a complete plot arc and a satisfying ending in a 3 hour (give or take) audiobook. The plot in this book is that Murderbot has gone back to the planet where it got hacked and ended up murdering the humans it was hired to protect to find out if it happened at all, and what caused it, and who was behind it. Along the way, it meets a sentient spaceship and forms something like a friendship by bonding over an unrealistic television show. Murderbot ends up getting hired to protect some more humans, who do what humans do and act suicidally idiotic, which means that Murderbot feels obligated to save them from danger. It’s only a 3 hour audiobook, but it’s pretty satisfying. Challenge, solution, character development.
